Shakshuka on the campfire

Shakshuka is a well-known delicious dish of Israeli cuisine. Cook it with eggs and vegetables. Shakshuka on the campfire is a great option for breakfast or a light dinner in nature. Just remember to bring a frying pan with a lid (you can replace it with foil). Personally, I always take a cast-iron frying pan with me.

Ingredients (for 3-4 servings):

  • Eggs – 4 pieces
  • Tomatoes in their own juice (or fresh meaty tomatoes) – 400 grams.
  • Onion – 2 pieces.
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Butter – 30 g.
  • Dill, parsley – for sprinkle
  • Pepper ground – pinch
  • Salt – to taste

1 First of all, make a fire and heat a frying pan on it.

Melt the butter in a frying pan. Put the onion, sliced into half rings. Fry it until light golden.

2 Then add the chopped tomatoes in a frying pan in your own juice. If the season of fresh tomatoes has already started, then add them. Only choose meaty tomatoes and be sure to clean the skin from them. Bulgarian pepper can also be added to tomatoes.

Now salt, pepper and put finely chopped garlic. Mix well and simmer for 10 minutes.

3 After 10 minutes, make a spatula small recesses in the sauce. And carefully break the eggs in them. Cover the pan with a lid or foil and cook for a few more minutes. Here you can focus on your own taste – looking at what consistency you like ready-made eggs.

4 Shakushuka, cooked on fire, light and tasty dish. Give it with finely chopped greens and toasted bread. You can also sprinkle Shakshuka with grated cheese.

Useful advice

You can cook at once more sauce. It will come in handy later when cooking other dishes. So, for example, I add this sauce to hot sandwiches https://takajaeda.com/ may-cook-on-fresh-air/hot-sandwiches-on-the-grill/
